Assateague Island National Seashore Bayside sites felt sheltered and private, easy access to bathhouses/cold showers, and short walk to ocean. No electric hookups. Great biking, and short but interesting hiking trails (and informative visitor center). Wild horses a fun bonus! National Park pass discount.
Assateague National Seashore Campground. First time in 85,500 miles we paid for a camping spot. No hook ups at all but spot 8 on the Ocean side is right next to rustic toilets and cold showers. Being steps from the Atlantic Ocean was pretty great. Big storm the night we were there, so no campfire for us. Only saw horses on our drive in and a few sika deer on our walk. Would recommend asking which spot is better for wind when checking in. The Ocean side was crazy windy but the Bay side was very pleasant.
