Paved road, and lots of dirt camp pullouts areas. Be aware of the private signs on some of the dirt road pullouts. The kind local let us know that it's pack in, pack out (of course!) and beautiful views at the top of the road, she was not kidding it's absolutely beautiful up here. Lots of bikers, dog friendly area, and great overnight camp pullouts!
Worked for me, middle of October, just at a larger pull-out a couple of miles in, just for the night in my van.
Very quiet however we could only get half way up the road due to there still being a large amount of snow. Road is paved but lots of potholes and broken concrete
