Check my review on iOverlander, but I spent 8 wonderful and safe nights in my Honda CR-V (no window covers or anything fancy) filled with musical equipment. You do have to be aware of street cleaners (left side of street, Monday and Thursday, Tuesday and Friday on the right, both at 9:00-10:30am) to avoid a ticket, but thats it. It was easy to find a spot but people are always looking. Very central location, close to parks and great locations. Also part of the NYU campus, so it's a student area. Have fun here! Bathrooms nearby in places, wifi at both The Bean (public NYC WiFi outside, you don't have to pay) and Abe Lebewohl Park for AT&T, and Village Farm Grocery has a water fountain in the back to fill up your water bottle.
