Caballo Lake State Park has 2 sections to it—one near the lake and one near the Rio Grande River below the Caballo dam. We stayed right by the rivers edge in Riverside part of the park—car / van camping with a tent for $10/night including a picnic table and fire ring/bbq grate. Eco toilets and trash bins spaced. Showers available. Ample trees give good shade. Has a day use section too with covered picnic tables per day use site. Very few others around this section this time of year in early June at least. The RV areas have hookups and are $14/night, more people there but sites are spaced nicely. The hosts and rangers are friendly. The place is pristine and clean, being by the river is a dream. Cell reception 1-3 bars Verizon depending on the specific spot. Can stay up to 14 days. Love it here!
