We stayed at the actual campground, but they are basically 100 yards apart. This is a beautiful spot located where the Green and Yampa rivers converge. You are surrounded by amazing cliffs in all directions with the main feature being Steamboat Rock. All of the campsites are very nice, vault toilets are scattered throughout the campground. Potable water is also readily available. Would recommend a high clearance vehicle to get into the canyon, not necessarily 4WD. Summer time gets very hot in the canyon, so you will find yourself swimming in the river a lot.
