You're not going to get down there unless you have high ground clearance. I walked down there from the campground on the rim. As of October 2023 there is currently a tree blocking the path. There are very deep ruts and rocks, etc. Nothing that a mountain bike couldn't handle. A jeep would be fine. You might be able to get down there in a high ground clearance van but you would probably want to be careful. I'm leaving this review and the pictures so that you have some information about it. This isn't a flood zone or area and the high level flood mark would put every campsite underwater. There are several campsites and the bathroom was clean but it looks like the sign hasn't been maintained in a while. The campground above it has but nobody has cleared the tree yet so... Make sure from 39 you take Mills canyon road. If you go another way there's a good chance you will be on somebody else's property trespassing. Google attempted to give me the wrong directions multiple times. There is a place to stop near the top so you can scout out on foot. If you want to and there isn't enough room immediately by the entrance, you can take a left like you're going towards. The upper part of the canyon rim camp area and before you actually get there, there's a space to the right where you can pull off. Right past the gates you will be able to pull off and then you can walk down to the canyon to see if your vehicle can make it. It is an absolutely gorgeous place to stay and incredibly quiet.
