This is a bit of a drive for a place to park for the night! More of a destination for camping and hiking. Highish ground clearance definitely recommended, but someone in a sedan pulled in next to me last night so… Some of the directions are strange. The Trail Head has a single width “road” down to the left (as you enter) that leads to the actual camp sites. It is much worse than the several miles of washboard roads you’ll traverse to get to the trail head. Trees, mountain and reservoir views are nice. Seems like the hiking to the reservoir would be enjoyable.
Lots of dispersed sites are positioned along the 359 road that leads to a parking lot. Several large dispersed group camp sites are next to the parking lot. Mild off-road capability with awd and 8” ground clearance recommended. The Gross Reservoir is scenic with hiking, paddle boarding, kayaking, and canoeing as permitted activities.
